Pittsburgh Paddlefish
The Pittsburgh Paddlefish proudly represent TRRA and Pittsburgh in the dragon boat community. We are a diverse group bonded through our appreciation of dragon boating, teamwork, river water, speed, comaraderie, sore muscles, and an occasional beer or two.
We are actively recruiting new members. No prior boating experience is required. If it’s your first time in a dragon boat, we will give you a step-by-step introduction aimed at getting you paddling on the water safely and quickly. You just need to come prepared to work up a little sweat, get a little wet, and have a lot of fun!
Our on-the-water training starts in early April and ends in
November; we practice three times a week (Monday and Wednesday evenings at
6:30 PM; Saturday mornings at 9 AM). Over the winter, we keep up three practices
per week, but train indoors at TRRA's facilities in Millvale
and Washington's
Landing.
The Pittsburgh Paddlefish compete in dragon boat races locally, nationally,
and internationally. In addition to competing in the Pittsburgh Dragon Boat
Races, we travel to annual events in cities such as Washington DC, Toronto,
Ithaca, and Philadelphia. Team members have earned spots in international
races such as the 2005 World Dragon Boat Championships in Berlin, Germany,
the 2007 World Dragon Boat Championships in Sydney, Australia, and the 2008
World Club Crew Championships in Penang, Malaysia.
