Evening Mixed Masters Team

This team is a diverse group of men and women of all ages (21+) and backgrounds. The program was established for experienced rowers who want to row in the early evenings and on weekends. The participants have a wide range of rowing experience, from previous TRRA or other club programs, to prior participation on high school or college crews. Our goals vary as well, from a desire to improve rowing skills by consistently rowing with a motivated group, to fitness, to competition. Our program will strive to meet all of those goals in an atmosphere that is both structured and congenial.

Our Practice Schedules

Our sessions are coached by TRRA’s Head Coach, Rick Brown. In addition to overseeing our group workouts, he provides a written workout schedule for those who choose to do additional individual workouts, or who want to make up a missed session. The practice schedule while the team is on the water is:

Water Practices (approx April - November)
We meet at Washington's Landing for all practices.
Monday evening at 6:15-8:00 pm (on the water by 6:30)
Wednesday evening at 6:15-8:00 pm (on the water by 6:30)
Saturday morning at 9:00-11:00 am

We expect to be on the water through November. The team continues practicing through the winter-we just move inside. Please be sure to contact the captains (info below) before showing up to practice so they can let you know any special circumstances and where the team is meeting that day.

Winter Practices (approx December - March)
Monday evening at 6:00-7:30 pm at Millvale (members arrive as close to 6:00 as possible, do a scheduled erg workout and then move into the weight room by 7:00 pm)
Wednesday evening at 6:30-8:00 pm at Washington's Landing
Saturday morning at 8:30-10:00 am at Millvale (tanks and ergs)

Introducing Our Coach:

Rick Brown, TRRA’s new Head Coach, has been coaching for over seven years. Most recently he served as the Interim Director of the Marin Rowing Association (summer 2006), the 2006 USRowing Club of the Year. Rick began rowing in 1996 eventually becoming his team's captain at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.

He has coached all levels of rowers, from a novice high school crew to elite collegiate and club rowers. Rick began his coaching career with the novice women at Simmons College in Boston. There he
also helped to launch a first year high school rowing program in Wayland-Weston, MA. Hired as a novice men's coach for the University of California, Santa Barbara, Rick spent one year in
that position before being promoted to the head coach of the
men's team, serving for the next two years. More recently Rick
spent two years as coach of the Master Women’s team for the
Marin Rowing Association. Rick started at Three Rivers in the fall of 2006.

Having a Masters Degree in Sport Management, coupled with his wide range of experience, has helped Rick become an adept
teacher and a great communicator. Practices show he is very
skilled at getting the most out of his rowers. Throughout his coaching career, Rick has shown a dedication to not only growing
his rowing programs in strength and numbers, but in fostering a winning environment for his teams. He is excited to begin his second year directing this program for TRRA and we are delighted to
have him as our coach.
