Racing is back! And not a moment too soon for all of our athletes, coaches, supporters and the entire TRRA community. Throughout the month, programs will be departing our TRRA campuses en route to Bethel, OH (Midwest Junior Rowing Championships), Camden New Jersey (A-10 & MAAC Championships), and to Philadelphia, PA (Dad Vails) to represent their programs and our city in championship level events! The resilience that these athletes, coaches and programs have demonstrated to get to this championship season is an attribute we can all be proud of and will continue to make each crew a force to be reckoned with on race day. Our Adult Rowing programs have their first races on the horizon as with trips to Rochester, NY and Washington, DC planned. Best of luck to all those competing this spring - you earned this, now enjoy it!
Off the water, TRRA has been equally busy as we flow through 2022. Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to represent TRRA at the Project Play Summit hosted by The Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., where over 400 individuals from across the country gathered to collaborate and commit to making sports more accessible and impactful for youth throughout the nation. Our Events & Volunteers team has been preparing to launch our “Return to Volunteering” initiative (see below for full details). And we have been out in the community, representing TRRA at the Homewood Children’s Zone Community Dinner, the Macaroni Kid Summer Camp & Family Fun Expo and the YMCA Healthy Kids Day.
With summer right around the corner, we are excited to see so many more people returning to the water and excited to share all of the rowing and paddling opportunities with new individuals and groups in our Pittsburgh community. Read on for more information about our summer programs, for youth and adults, rowers and paddlers! We hope to see everyone back on the water with us in the near future!

RETURN TO VOLUNTEERING
As a community-based organization, TRRA’s volunteers are involved in nearly every service we provide and event we organize, the upkeep of our fleet and facility, and much of our outreach and fundraising efforts. During the last few years, the tracking of volunteer hours and volunteer coordination drifted into the background in order to tend to more pressing matters. Despite the pandemic turning TRRA programming on its head, volunteers remained committed to providing safe, sustainable, and inclusive rowing and paddling programming, stepping up to help provide virtual experiences to keep our community engaged and connected. More recently, as TRRA activities normalize, the spirit of volunteerism has proved to be alive and well, once again in person.
In an effort to both foster continued volunteering in our community and recognize the hard work you all do, we will now offer the ability to track your volunteer hours in iCrew. We are calling on all our members to contribute as follows:
Jan 1, 2022 - June 30, 2022: 6 hours (please record any hours you have already completed during this time period)
