Three Rivers Youth Rowing (TRYR) is a competitive rowing program open to any student from Western Pennsylvania entering 8th - 12th grades. Three Rivers takes great pride in our ability to develop the fitness and character of our athletes throughout their entire rowing career.

TRYR is one of the most competitive programs in the Midwest regions and has enjoyed a significant amount of success on the national level. Our athletes have won regional and national championships, and have competed for world championships. Many of our athletes go on to row in college and a significant number receive college scholarships. However, the true strength of our program is the lessons taught and community created.

No experience is necessary to join our team. Any athlete, regardless of experience or background, is welcome to row with us. Financial support is available.

Three Rivers Youth Rowing is always accepting new rowers!  No experience is necessary. You are welcome to come to observe or participate in a few practices before you make a commitment. Please email Head Coach Matt Grau to set a time to visit practice, or to ask more questions about our team.

Rowing is a unique sport in that there is an entire segment of our sport devoted to new athletes - novice rowing. When a new rower joins our team, they will train and race with other rowers in their first year of rowing. After completing a year of novice rowing athletes will move on to the varsity program.

Spring 2021 Race Schedule - TBD

Our varsity athletes practice 5-6 times per week depending on the season while our novice athletes practice 4-5 times a week.

The team typically races 5-6 times in the fall and 6-7 times in the spring. The fall season is typically built around the Head of the Ohio, the Columbus Fall Classic, and the Head of the Hooch (or Head of the Schuylkill). The spring season includes the Cincinnati HS Invite, Cooper Cup, Midwest Junior Rowing Championships, and the USRowing Youth National Championships. TRYR seeks to offer as many racing opportunities to athletes as possible while also maximizing the team's performance at the Midwest Championships and Youth Nationals.
