THREE RIVERS ROWING ASSOCIATION
Youth Summer Camps
2023
Welcome to the 2023 Youth Summer Camp Season!
Summer is an incredible time to row in Pittsburgh. Our rivers allow us the opportunity to work in small boats and pursue individualized training in a way that is not often possible during the school year.
Three Rivers Rowing Association offers several different programs to allow rowers to experience summer rowing in Pittsburgh. No experience is necessary, and rowing is open to everyone!
To discover which camp is right for you, look through the camp descriptions below or email Head Coach Matt Grau.

Technical / Sculling / Small Boat Development Camps
Continuing this year: athletes will train alongside our racing camp athletes when group size and speed allow for crossover. Open to junior/high school athletes that have completed at least one season of rowing. Sculling experience is not required. These camps are ideal for athletes who want to increase their technical skill level for the next season. The focus of these camps is on small boat skills. Rowers will start in larger sculling boats and move to smaller boats, both sweep and sculling, as they develop the necessary skills. Though these camps will focus on skill-building there will still be a training component. Video review will be a consistent component of this program, as well as on-land skill instruction. Athletes should be prepared to work hard mentally and physically. The coaching staff will be drawn from local youth coaches and former athletes with significant sculling experience. Athletes are welcome to participate in multiple camps.

Learn-to-Row Camps

4th-7th and 8th-12th Grades
Open to any athlete who will be in 4th–12th grade; no experience is necessary! We have a program for rising 4th through 7th grade athletes as well as a program for rising 8th through 12th grade students. These camps are open to both experienced and inexperienced athletes. The focus of these camps is learning and fun. The coaching staff will divide athletes up by age range and ability level. Athletes will be taught the proper way to row on the water and indoors and will also learn boat-handling and rowing safety skills. This program will prepare athletes for a long, successful career in rowing. Some on-land skill instruction and team-building activities will take place. At the end of this program athletes will be prepared to join a competitive program, row with one of our recreational programs, or wait for the next summer experience! TRRA will be offering six one-week Learn-to-Row camps. Athletes are welcome to participate in multiple camps. Continuing this year: Three Rivers will also be offering two "Advanced Learn to Row" classes for athletes who complete one week of our regular Learn to Row class and are looking for a more challenging program for their second week.
