November 2022: Millvale Turns 20, Community Events, WRL, and ED Report

Millvale Turns 20!

In November 2002, Three Rivers Rowing Association unveiled a second facility located in the new Millvale Riverfront Park. Today the Millvale Campus is home to our two dragon boat teams, Hearts of Steel and Pittsburgh Paddlefish, and includes the only indoor rowing tanks in Western Pennsylvania. In honor of the 20th birthday of our beloved campus, we launched the Millvale $20 for 20 Years campaign to raise funds that will help us spruce up the place. Thanks to some wonderful volunteers and efforts led by Ross Thomson, we have repainted the upstairs hallway and the outdoor steps.

*We are $655 away from our goal of $2,500. Please consider donating to the campaign so we can continue to make improvements around the Millvale campus. Donate using the link HERE.

*Note: As of publishing (Tuesday, November 1 at 5pm), we were $655 away from our goal of $2,500

Upcoming Events

Boatload of Toys Donation Drive

We are so excited to announce our first Boatload of Toys donation drive!

This year, we’re partnering with Jeremiah’s Place to collect new toys, clothes, and food for families in need. Items will be collected for children ages 0-6.

Please bring unwrapped toys, new clothing, and unopened, nonperishable food to the Washington’s Landing campus anytime until Sunday, December 4th. You can view a wish list through the link HERE.

Turkey Scramble & Potluck

The second annual Turkey Scramble & Potluck will take place on Saturday, November 19th at 10:30 am. Bring your friends! Registration is free through the link below, and we are asking all participants to bring an item (or more!) for the Boatload of Toys donation drive (see above). Just like last year, to select boat lineups, we will meet by the boat bays, line up by height, and count off by eight. Afterwards, we’ll host a community potluck in the erg room.

Please bring your favorite snack or non-alcoholic beverage for all to enjoy!

Executive Director's Report

Dear TRRA Community,

Happy November! I hope everyone is well and that you are able to take advantage of a few final rows and paddles on the river this fall!

With the water season winding down, I know a big question on everyone’s mind is, what will winter training look like this year? Right now, we are actively working to finalize the protocols and procedures for safe indoor training during the winter months with our local public health officials and governing bodies. As we work through the final details of what winter training will look like, please know it is our intention to provide safe, indoor space for all of our rowing and paddling programs.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed or pledged contributions to the 2022 campaign and I hope that everyone is able to join us for the Turkey Scramble on Saturday, November 19th! We hope this will be a fun and inclusive event for our entire community to culminate the year.

Be well and be safe!

Matt Logue

Executive Director
