October 2021 Community Newsletter

ED UPDATE:

October is a special month for our Three Rivers community. Not only does October play host to a regatta every weekend, but it is also Breast Cancer Awareness month and the annual home of the Head of the Ohio Regatta.

On September 26th, our Hearts of Steel Dragon Boat program, which is made up of breast cancer survivors and supporters, hosted the Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival at North Park Lake. The weather was perfect, the races were intense and the atmosphere was full of life and solidarity. Congratulations to everyone in the Hearts of Steel program on hosting another successful and impactful event in our community!

Six days later, TRRA was proud to host the 35th Annual UPMC Head of the Ohio Regatta back on the Allegheny River. After a hybrid event in 2020, 50 teams and over 2,000 athletes converged on the river for two days of exceptional racing in the youth, collegiate, masters, open and adaptive/para events. This regatta is not possible without the support and leadership of our athletes, coaches, staff, and volunteers and we cannot thank you all enough for ensuring the success of this year's regatta! Be sure to save the date for the 2022 Head of the Ohio, taking place on October 1-2, 2022!

Over the next few weeks, we will be wrapping up our fall racing season and beginning to wind down our 2021 on water campaign. We are continuing to work with public health officials and safety best practices to finalize plans for the winter season and expect to have an announcement in the next 7-10 days regarding winter training at our TRRA campuses.

Thank you all for your continued support of TRRA and all of the programs in our community. We hope to see you safely on the water with us in the coming weeks and good luck to all crews in their upcoming races!

Be well and be safe!
