SAFETY BULLETIN: RIVER CLOSURE

Good Morning TRRA Community,

As a result of yesterdays train wreck in Harmar, PA, there have been conflicting reports regarding the closure of the Allegheny River. Oil has spilled into the river from the train wreck and clean up efforts are underway.

There is a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Allegheny River is closed from Harmer to the Point. I spoke with the Coast Guard earlier today and they said they river is only closed from Mile 12 to Mile 14 (above our pool). The Coast Guard also mentioned that could change and that we should monitor Channel 16 for the most up to date notices.

Here is what we are doing:

  • TRRA staff will be monitoring marine channel 16 throughout the weekend at each Campus location.

  • If the river closure extends to our area, we will close the dock immediately and send out notice via email, iCrew, Social Media and this news post.

Here is what we need from you:

  • We need all TRRA coaches and athletes to be flexible and understanding of the situation.

  • Know that the docks may be open when you leave your house and closed by the time you get to one of our Campuses for your row or paddle.

We will share additional updates as needed, as they become available. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Be Safe and be well,

Matt Logue

Executive Director
